Choose a pattern that is appropriate for your skill level.
Read the entire pattern before starting it. If you are confused about
any part of the instructions, highlight and refer to your notes on stitches
and abbreviations. Practice before beginning.
Make a copy
of the pattern. This allows you to keep track of your work, make notes and
circle information pertinent to the size that you're making.
Always follow the instructions step by step, and make the pieces in the
order given. Doing this avoids confusion later.
There should only be one stitch left on the hook at the completion of
each stitch or sequence.
Keep a journal. This is useful for keeping notes on unfamiliar terms,
favorite yarn and pattern, or anything you find interesting to become more
proficient.
